Why do you think
World of Warcraft has been such a success when compared to other MMOs?
Now, World of Warcraft has shattered earlier assumptions about the potential size of the market.

Addicted to Tanking?    2010-03-25 00:00:00
I prefer to dps in pugs (where I can outdo most of the other folks) and tank in guild raids (where my gear's actually pushed to the limit). Naturally I end up tanking pugs and dpsing raids.-Beohrn -- 80 druid Brandmanen -- 80 Hunter "Skill is a measure of how fast a player can turn experience into -- Anedris, EJ forums "The warrior acts, the fool reacts" Please pardon the ego, it keeps getting stuck in doorways. advice for a gift    2010-03-10 00:00:00
Hi all, I'm new to the Alla boards, but not new to WoW. I have a friend that is having a "big" birthday soon, and some of her would like to get her a gift. Most of us are under 60 or a different class, and not quite sure what to get her. I was designated the "info finder," so I figured I'd ask on a forum. I didn't see a wishlist thread/list, so I looked up her on Armory (very neat site btw) and here are her stats: Lvl 70 hunter; NE Solo mainly (spent the last 6 months soloing, has only done 2 instances during that time--is too scared to do a PUG or even w/guildies, and doesn't have the time for more than 2 hours a day). Yesterday was the first day of BlizzCon 2008, a cornucopia of awesome for every World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo player on the planet. Though there wasn't the usual megaton announcement we've come to expect, there was a solid round of panels, interviews, and presentations for fans of Blizzard's numerous games. WoW Insider, Massively's big sister site, was onhand to get all the info you want to hear about. So ... here it is: BlizzCon Day 1.BlizzCon 2008 swag bagFresh from the check-in lines at BlizzCon is our gallery of the all the contents of the goodies bag Blizzard gave us. Some real great things in there: special goo, a free authenticator, the special mount card, a beer bottle cooler, and either an inflatable frostmourne or inflatable bubble hearth beach ball. WoW Insider interviews J. Allen BrackHere at BlizzCon, we just got to sit down with the head honcho of our favorite game, J. Allen Brack, lead producer of World of Warcraft. And the biggest surprise of the interview wasn't a nice tidbit about the future of WoW (and its battlegrounds) or how class changes are made, though we did talk about both of those things. Class panel liveblogWoW Insider is doing a lot of coverage today here at BlizzCon in Anaheim, C.A. We've already live-blogged the opening ceremony, the U.I. panel and discussion, and up next will be the live blog of the class panel at 4:30 EDT / 1:30 PDT. BlizzCon 2008: The costumesThe best part of coming to a convention like BlizzCon? Sure, the news is great, and it's fun to meet the devs and fellow WoW players, but let's be serious: everyone comes to see the costumes. One of Azeroth's millions of citizens? (whh you do) and have around 22k    2010-02-08 00:00:00
If you have defense at least 540 (whh you do) and have around 22k health and armor unbuffed (whh you do) you are ready to at least START heros and probably do some of Naxx. Mostly it is a question of being experieed and having a good healer, as well as doing the easier heros (like Nexus) before you do the harder ones. Have you been Prot before or did you just resp at 80? If you just respced, you probably don't have the experiee to manage pulls and keep everything underontrol that you would if you had been Prot for quite a while. Also, for heros you have to have a darn good healer that knows extly what they are doing. If you are ...
Warcraft 3 cheaters banned     2009-10-24 00:00:00
Blizzard Entertainment has reasserted its aggressive stance against cheating in its online games, permanently shutting down over 50,000 user accounts this week."We will continue to monitor Battle.net for cheating and take action as needed," Blizzard said in a statement. "As always, thank you for your continued support; with your help we have been able to keep Battle.net a fun and safe place to play Blizzard games."The cull, which sees 53,928 Warcraft III accounts shut down, meaning that users will have to recreate their online identities and attempt to build up their ranking afresh, is the late...
Warhammer Online vs World of Warcraft    2009-09-24 00:00:00
To actually see which one is better we will just have to wait till WAR, (warhammer online age of reckoning), comes out in September 2008. We can however take a look at the similarities and difference Mythic Entertainment? project (WAR), has in common with blizzards master piece, WOW. The two games are based upon war torn fantasy realms, and both games allow you to choose between which sides you wish to be part of; the alliance and horde for world of Warcraft and the armies of order and destruction for Warhammer online age of reckoning. In these factions you pick you can chose which character race you? like to be in the factions. In WAR there are will only be 6 races three to each faction; the dwarfs, the empire, and the high elves on one side, and the green skins, dark elves, and chaos on the other side. For World of Warcraft there are as of now ten races splitting five to each side. On the alliance side there is the; the night elves, dawrfs, gnomes, humans, and the draenie. On the hordes side there are; orcs, trolls, tauren, undead, and the blood elves. The difference in the two games aren? as noticeable on the surface as they are...
You may or may not be aware that the head of Mythic Entertainment, Mark Jacobs, hates gold sellers. Like, a lot. He's been known to play the part of subscription-loving, RMT-hating traditionalist at conferences in the past. So now that Warhammer Online is out, how do you think he likes the idea of gold farmers in his gameworld? "Not at all" would be an understatement. A testament to this is his most recent blog post, "A banning we will go, a banning we will go."In it, Jacobs explains why he desperately hates 'these jerks', and some...
